The latch post is from a street sign that is repurposed because reasons. There will be a deluxe bird feeder affixed atop once we figure out what’s appropriate. The gate I made from culled redwood fence boards from Home Despot and represents maybe $12 worth of lumber. The row of orange buckets have jalapeños and some kind of Chinese peppers that looked pretty in the seed catalog, and the big garden has peas and tomatoes and a new fence to keep out the crazy-ass four-legged animal from outer space that jumps like a kangaroo so maybe it came from Planet Australia.

Today, I was stressed out, because I had to do actual work for my actual job.

Thank you, and likewise. Have  you considered an awning over that front window?

I like the bucket raised bed. I’m going to see if my wife can get on-board with that idea.

I plan on setting up a triple irrigation setup eventually.

My wife likes to plant things in buckets too. It works well.

Ive considered many things in this old house. Mainly I keep it dim like a cave. Behind the white are dark curtains.

I set irrigation in the front flower beds. If I can get her onboard with buckets and a promise of more irrigation, this may be a winning combo!

Thanks. Those random slat tops, I’ve never done anything like that before.

I asked because I’m used to having eaves over windows. Your home looks sort of desert style.

The buckets are on a platform that is supported by a 4x4 every 8 feet. Setting posts, believe it or not, is one of my favorite things. I like the physical effort of digging the post holes and then of mixing the concrete in the wheel barrow.

My mother lived in Phoenix, then Green Valley. I visited here a couple of times in each place. While I was visiting Phoenix, there was a wide ranging power outage. Very unpleasant. Green Valley was a bit more moderate, and you could drive across the valley to some hills and gain a bit of elevation for the day. Very pretty place, Green Valley.

I built the fence around our back yard with some assistance from one of my neighbors. I’m thankful he only offered to help on his side! With so many holes to dig through clay, I rented a one-man post hole digger. That was fun. I still had to dig a couple of them by hand. I wouldn’t call that  something I really enjoyed. I just used quickrete mixed in the hole around each post. It made installation a breeze.

Thank you. You can relate to this, probably: there's probably only an hour or two of work in that gate, but many hours and days of thinking and hemming and hawing and scratching my head in between.

I actually prefer to shoot from the hip more often than not. Especially on little jobs.

The kitchen cabinets were meticulously planned, but even then I found some issues that forced me to wing it.

Meticulous planning. I’ll be looking at this every day and I don’t want any regrets.
